An important tenet of complexity science relates to the continuing importance of diversity or difference to maintain resilience in the face of change. The most obvious example of this is in biodiversity.  This is because biological organisms include DNA in which information about the potentials forfitness in a changing environment are encoded from evolutionary survival over  millions of years of ecological diversity and change.

For example, a 2011 article in Nature describes the importance of plant life diversity to the maintenance of viable ecosystems.
